She's going hunting (not in the Bjork sort of way)

Let’s be honest: We are not in the world of John Wick for the plots. We are here for the murders, and murders are what we get in the new trailer for Ballerina, the spinoff film that takes place at the same time as John Wick Chapter 3—Parabellum. It follows the fiery and stabby and punchy adventures of one Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who, according to the brief synopsis, “is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.”

It would appear that Eve—whose biblical name gets a really obvious nod from Ian McShane’s Winston—wishes to kill someone, but other murdery parties disapprove of this choice. So they send John Wick (Keanu Reeves) himself after here. Only one of them will walk away from that fight, supposedly, but we know Mr. Wick goes on to star in another movie. So perhaps another solution is found to their gun-filled conflict.

Ballerina also stars Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Catalina Sandino Moreno, the late Lance Reddick, and, to my delight, Gabriel Byrne, who plays “The Chancellor.” This entry into the John Wick Cinematic Universe is directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) and written by Shay Hatten, who was also a writer on John Wicks 3 and 4. The film is based on characters created by Derek Kolstad.

Ballerina is in theaters June 6th. icon-paragraph-end
